The Chiltern Choir
Joining the Choir
Would you enjoy singing with a friendly group of like-minded people who enjoy making good music together?Must I be able to read music?
-
It's not essential, but an ability to read music is a definite plus.
Do you audition?
-
If, after you've attended a couple of rehearsals, you decide to join the choir, you'll be invited to sing a short piece of your choice for the musical director. This informal voice test is just to check that you can sing acceptably well (in tune and in time; virtuoso performances not required!), and to ensure that you're assigned to the right part in the choir.
When and where are rehearsals?
-
We rehearse Tuesday evenings, 19:50–22:00, during school term, at the Free Church, Chorleywood (Hillside Road, no more than a 5-minute walk from Chorleywood station).
I may have to skip some rehearsals.
-
That's okay of course, although if you have to miss more than a couple of rehearsals for a given concert (especially rehearsals immediately before a concert), then the musical director may ask you to stand down from that performance.
What does it cost?
Like all amateur choirs, we have to raise a subscription to cover the costs of our rehearsal and performance venues, professional accompanists, etc. The current rate is £50 per term (£150 p.a.), inclusive of music scores and workshops.
